Preventive Maintenance Program

On October 1st, 2006 Tennessee Chapter 701 became law.The law requires that all equipment used in a nursing home be inspected and certified to be safe and in proper working order. At RSS we were providing preventative maintenance to our clients long before it became it was required by law. Preventive maintenance is a good idea and we anticipate other states will soon follow this same path.
One of the most important advantages we provide is that we are flexible in how we provide services to our customers, meaning that we can make adjustments to suit a specific need for small companies or large corporations.

What is “Preventive Maintenance?

The care and servicing by trained personnel for the purpose of maintaining equipment and facilities in satisfactory operating condition by providing for systematic inspection, detection, and correction of incipient failures either before they occur or before they develop into major defects. Maintenance, including tests, measurements, adjustments, and parts replacement, performed specifically to reduce faults from occurring.

What equipment needs to have a PM ?

All equipment used for the treatment, diagnosis, and monitoring of patients including, but not limited:

  • Oxygen equipment, concentrators, Portable regulators, liquid systems
  • Pulse Oximeters
  • Electric beds, Low Air Loss beds, APP, BP equipment
  • Feeding and IV Pumps
  • Scales, Lifts, Whirlpools
  • Basically anything that come in contact with a resident
What should I expect during a sate survey?

In our discussions directly with Tennessee State Inspectors we have found the following information will be requested in addition to documentation of PM.

  • Is there a written Medical Equipment Management Plan which includes the following?
  • How does facility identify Patient Ready vs. Broken Equipment?
  • Ongoing Equipment records of equipment that’s repaired between the PM service date.
These are a few examples of areas expected to be covered. Our company will address and prepare your facility on these as well as other issues discussed with State Inspectors.

How do I get Started?

Simply provide a list by Manufacture and model numbers of equipment requiring performance evaluations. (We have a blank product list form available upon request.)This list will also be used to generate Manufactured Specification Sheets for your Records.

Once you have completed the list, contact RSS at 1-877-823-3702 to schedule your services.  Your primary contact will be Scott Gantt.

The facility should identify an employee to be used as a contact person familiar with were the equipment is stored. This person will be a valuable asset to insure no equipment is overlooked.
